Hosein Naderpour received his Ph.D. degree with high honors in Structural Engineering. He then joined Semnan University where he is presently Associate Professor of Structural Engineering. Since joining the faculty of Civil Engineering at Semnan University, Dr. Naderpour has taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of structural engineering, numerical methods, mechanics of materials, structural stability, concrete structures, structural reliability, as well as soft computing. Dr. Naderpour is author of 60 papers published in journals and about 100 papers presented at national and international conferences. He has given several speeches in Switzerland, China, Australia, South Korea, Romania, Turkey, Canada, Hong Kong, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, Japan, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic and France. He is currently a chief member of Iranian Earthquake Engineering Association, Iran Concrete Institute (ICI), Iranian Society for Light Steel Framing (LSF), Iran's National Elites Foundation, Safe School Committee, Organization for Development, Renovation and Equipping Schools of Iran (DRES). Furthermore, he is currently the editor-in-chief of three international journals in the area of civil and mechanical engineering including Journal of Soft Computing in Civil Engineering (SCCE), Journal of Computational Engineering and Physical Modeling (CEPM) and Reliability Engineering and Resilience (REngR). His major research interests include: application of soft computing in structural engineering, seismic resilience, structural reliability, structural optimization and damage detection of structures.

Seyed Hooman Ghasemi is a faculty member at Rowan University, he was a research associate at Washington State University and formerly an assistant professor at Azad Qazvin University. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from Auburn University in the USA under Prof. Andrzej S. Nowak's supervision. His research interests are mainly focused on structural engineering, target reliability of structures, structural reliability & infrastructural resilience analysis, bridge design/assessment, and probabilistic structural seismic design. Also, he is working on probabilistic fracture & fatigue failure analysis, development of probabilistic failure criteria, ground motion selection, critical excitation & performance-based design, and code calibration (LRFD) concerning bridges, tunnels, and various infrastructural components.

Dr. Ehsan Noroozinejad Farsangi is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earthquake Engineering at the Graduate University of Advanced Technology, Iran. Dr. Noroozinejad is known as the Chief Editor of the International Journal of Earthquake and Impact Engineering, the Associate Editor of the ASCE Practice Periodical on Structural Design and Construction, the Associate Editor of IET Journal of Engineering, the Associate Editor of Frontiers in Built Environment: Earthquake Engineering Section and the Trial Engineering Editor at ASCE Natural Hazards Review. He is also a member of the FIB Commission on Resilient RC Structures, the ASCE Objective Resilience Committee, the RILEM Structural Performance and Design Technical Committee and also the IEEE P693 Committee on Seismic Design for Substations. His main field of expertise are structural and earthquake engineering, structural dynamics, resilience-based design, reliability analysis, and vibration control in structures and infrastructure under extreme loading.

Luis Canhoto Neves is an Lecturer in the Resilience Engineering Research Group at the University of Nottingham. His work has focused on life-cycle analysis of existing structures and structural risk analysis. He is author of 43 papers in International Journals, and several communications in conferences. He is the recipient of the 2007 Munro Award and the 2008 IABMAS Young Researcher Award. He worked as a bridge consultant, participating in the design of pre-stressed concrete, composite and steel short and medium span bridges.
Luis is a member of the Resilience Engineering research group.

Dr. Mohammad Jalayer is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rowan University. Dr. Jalayer’s interest is in traffic engineering and he has been deeply involved in research related to traffic operations and safety, statistical methods and applications in transportation, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). He has made major contributions to several projects contracted with Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), and the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) in recent years. Dr. Jalayer has authored or coauthored more than 60 scholarly articles and papers that have been published in scientific journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Jalayer is the recipient of several prestigious awards such as 2016 National Highway Safety Information System (HSIS), 2017 ASCE -CJB Young Civil Engineer of Year, and 2017 ITE-Northeastern District Rising Star Program. Dr. Jalayer is a member of ASCE T&DI Transportation Safety Committees, ITE, and ASCE. He received a doctorate in civil engineering from Auburn University in 2016.

Research interests
Earthquakes, cyclones, floods and tsunamis are events of low probability but high consequences. Associate Professor Hao Zhang's research looks at the frequency and magnitude of such events, and at their effects on structures such as buildings and bridges, with the aim of increasing safety by improving design.
"We cannot eliminate earthquakes, cyclones and so on. They will happen. But in terms of our structures, we can be prepared.
"It's not possible to design a structure that is absolutely safe - one that will never fail - but we can certainly mitigate the risks so that, for example, if a major earthquake does occur, the people inside will be able to get out.
"I always wanted to be a structural engineer. My parents were both mechanical engineers, so I was familiar with engineering generally, but as a kid I decided I wanted to build something big, so I went into civil engineering!
"I worked in industry before entering academia, which means I appreciate the challenges and responsibilities of being a civil engineer. I wanted to gain this experience before becoming a researcher. Otherwise I felt that I would be doing research into, for example, building better bridges but would never have designed one myself.
"I joined the University of Sydney in 2008, and am very happy to have moved here. I can choose what I want to research, and the School of Civil Engineering provides me with a lot of support, including funding, student resources and opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and industry. I really enjoy working in this environment."

Chris Eamon’s primary area of expertise is structural reliability analysis. His research interests include the modeling and reliability assessment of structures under extreme loads such as traffic overloads, blast, fire, and wind; reliability-based design optimization; traffic load modeling; and consideration of approximate probabilistic methods for fast, efficient analysis. His work involved application to a variety of structures, including civil, automotive, and marine, with emphasis on bridge components and systems.

Bio
Rafael Holdorf Lopez is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, since 2011. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (Brazil), in 2006, and received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Rouen (France) in 2010. Currently, Dr. Lopez has a Level 2 CNPq Researcher Fellowship and conducts research on the development of algorithms for engineering optimization and optimization under uncertainty, reliability and uncertainty quantification, with applications to structural systems.

Sami W. Tabsh has been a faculty member at the University of Houston, Texas, and a project engineer for complex structures with Gannett Fleming, Inc., Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA. Dr. Gaofeng Jia specializes in natural hazard risk assessment/mitigation, robust analysis/design of complex engineering systems and high performance structures, risk-informed decision making, modeling of aging and deterioration of infrastructure, as well as automated condition assessment of civil infrastructure with the ultimate goal of enhancing infrastructure resilience. His research brings together the versatility of generalized simulation-based approaches and the efficiency of soft computing and high performance computing to address the challenges associated with solving complex engineering problems. Dr. Jia earned his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (2007) and Master's degree in Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (2009) from Beijing Jiaotong University, China. He obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame (2014). Prior to joining CSU, he worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Notre Dame (2014-2015) and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2015-2016). He is recipient of the Young Researcher Best Paper Award in the International Conference on Soft Computing Technology in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering (2013), and of the Best Student Paper Award in the ASCE EMI/PMC conference (2012).

Radu Vacareanu graduated Civil Engineering in 1991 from the Technical University of Iasi, Romania. He got his Ph.D. from the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest (UTCB) in 1999 in the field of seismic risk assessment. Currently, he is Professor of Structural Reliability and Seismic Risk Analysis at UTCB. Radu Vacareanu is Vice-President of the European Association for Earthquake Engineering (EAEE), National Delegate of Romania at the International Association for Earthquake Engineering (IAEE) and Executive President of the National Commission for Earthquake Engineering of Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration of Romania. In between 2002 and 2008, he was the director of the National Centre for Seismic Risk Reduction, implementing the JICA (Japan Technical Cooperation Agency) Project on Seismic Risk Reduction for Buildings and Structures in Romania. Radu Vacareanu participated in international projects and coordinated national projects aiming at seismic risk reduction. He published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences proceedings. His research interest covers the seismic hazard, fragility and risk.

Roman is appointed as Associate Professor and researcher in the field of Structural Engineering at the Stellenbosch University. His research interests are within the field of structural reliability and consist mainly of the assessment of existing structures, traffic load modeling, and target reliability values. Further interests are aligned with cost optimization and reliability based decision making.
He received his Dr.-Ing. (Ph.D.) at the University of German Armed Forces in Munich. The aim of his study was the development of a safety concept for military traffic on existing bridges. MSc in Structural Engineering was accomplished at UC Berkeley with a focus on Earthquake related design.
His additional past activities, as a self-employed consultant, included design and design review of any structural engineering work with an emphasis on bridges and tunnels. His previous professional experience involved large transportation projects in North America, where he mainly provided structural design services for bridges and other transportation-related structures. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (Civil) in California.

Dr. Nazari is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rowan University. His primary research interests are: application of remote sensing in water resources and environment, Coastal resiliency, hydrodynamic modeling, storm water management and impact assessment of extreme weather events on built environment. He has worked on New York and New Jersey Resiliency planning has been a pioneer in identification of the high risk areas and prediction of the possible damages and cost analysis under various extreme climatic scenarios. He has received over $3,000,000 in funding from federal, state and industry for his research. Dr. Nazari's research has been supported by NSF, USDA, FEMA, NJDCA, NJDEP, NY/NJ DOT, and American Water. Dr. Nazari's work has been featured on TV and major Newspapers including, PIX11 news, NJTV, US Guardian, Philadelphia Inquirer, New Jersey Business and Press of Atlantic City to name a few.

P. Fakharian received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Civil and Structural Engineering from Semnan University. Mehdi Mokhtari received his B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Sistan & Baluchestan and M.Sc. degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Isfahan.
